On behalf of the members of Taverners Lodge, I would like to extend a warm welcome to our website. Whether or not you are already a Freemason, I hope you find this Masonic website both useful and informative.
Taverners Lodge No. 7442 is one of the many Lodges within the Province of Hampshire and Isle of Wight and we meet at the Masonic Hall in Albert Road, Cosham, Portsmouth. We pride ourselves on our work, both during our time in the Lodge room and in the aid of charity – the latter being one of the main precepts of Freemasonry.
Freemasonry is a fully inclusive fraternity with members from all backgrounds and walks of life, with an age range spanning many decades. It is the ultimate leveller, a society where friendship and goodwill are paramount.
Freemasonry gives you the opportunity to meet some great people, enjoy some excellent camaraderie and have good fun – if you don’t enjoy what you are doing (especially your hobby) there is not much point in continuing! Being able to give something back to the local community while doing something you enjoy is immensely gratifying.
Our Lodge has a thriving membership with over 65 members, with a number of new candidates and joining members every year bucking the trend of declining Lodge membership.
Our mother Lodge, Lodge Of Hope was consecrated on the 12th May 1886 in Gosport. Taverners Lodge was consecrated on 26th June 1956 at Masonic Hall, Commercial Road, Portsmouth – further information can be found on our Lodge history page.
The present Lodge membership, I know, will ensure that Taverners Lodge continues to go from strength to strength.
In 2017, our governing body, United Grand Lodge of England (UGLE), celebrated its tercentenary – three hundred years of Freemasonry was celebrated by Freemasons throughout the world.
